About Validator Accounts
The Stash and Controller accounts can be the same account but it is recommended to use two accounts as a way to reduce the risk of lost funds.
-
The stash account holds the bonded and staked xx coins of the validator. This is also the account that era rewards are paid into.
-
The controller account holds a small amount of transferable xx coins that can be used to make changes to the validator preferences and initiate payouts.
Once you have completed Staking the Validator, the stash account can be removed from the Web Wallet, thus reducing the chances of the account being compromised.
